Did You Know that, according to the Activity Rankings function of the CEELMDirect website, Paksoy Partner Elvan Aziz and Turunc Partner Kerem Turunc have both worked on 36 reported deals in Turkey since 2013, putting them in a two-way tie atop the leaderboard in the country in that time? 

The competition is nipping at their heels, however. Muhsin Keskin of the Esin Attorney Partnership has worked on 34 reported deals since 2013, and Aziz’s colleagues at Paksoy, Sera Somay and Togan Turan, have worked on 28 and 24 deals, respectively.  The top ten is filled out by Paksoy’s Omer Collak (21),  Okan Arican (16) and Galip Selcuk (14) of the Balcioglu Selcuk Ardiyok Keki Attorney Partnership, Moral & Partners’ Vefa Resat Moral (15), GKC Partners’ Derin Altan (13) and Emre Ozsar (13), and Gen & Temizer | Ozer’s Mufit Arapoglu (13).

Did You Know that, according to the Activity Rankings function of the CEELMDirect website, Sorainen Partner Rudolfs Engelis has worked on 16 reported Latvian Banking & Finance deals since 2013 – far and away the most of any lawyer in Latvia?

Indeed, Engelis is the only lawyer in double digits. A four-way tie for second place exists between Cobalt’s Gatis Flinters, TGS Baltic’s Inese Hazenfusa, and two lawyers based in other jurisdictions – Cobalt’s Kristel Raidla-Talur (in Estonia), and Sorainen’s Tomas Kontautas (in Latvia) – each of whom has worked on seven reported Banking & Finance deals in Latvia over the past nine years, with Sorainen’s Eva Berlaus alone in sixth place with six.

The top ten is filled out by Cobalt’s Sandija Novicka, who has worked on five reported Banking & Finance deals in Latvia, and Ellex’s Valters Diure, Cobalt Estonia’s Karina Paatsi, and Sorainen Estonia’s Reimo Hammerberg, each of whom has worked on four.

Clifford Chance Partners Emil Holub and Milos Felgr are in second and third place, with 28 and 27 reported deals each since 2013, and JSK Partner Tomas Dolezil is close behind with 25. CMS Partner Helen Rodwell and Schoenherr Partner Vladimir Cizek are tied for fifth place with 24.

The top ten is rounded out by Kocian Solc Balastik Partner Drahomir Tomasuk (with 18), and then a five-way tie between Jan Koval of Havel & Partners, Jiri Tomola of Dentons, Klara Stepankova of Kinstellar, Martin Lukas of Weinhold Legal, and Vaclav Audes of Havel & Partners, each of whom has worked on 16 reported deals in the past nine years.

A total of 23 other Hungarian partners have worked on one reported Banking/Finance deal each – but only those four have worked on two in the past twelve months. No lawyer has worked on three.

Did You Know that, according to the Activity Rankings function of the CEELMDirect website, Zepos & Yannopoulos has worked on 42 Greek deals reported on the CEE Legal Matters website since 2013 – more than any other law firm – and that Kyriakides Georgopoulos is a close second, with 39?

There’s a significant drop-off after that. The Koutalidis Law Firm has worked on a total of 24 reported deals in Greece since 2013, and Bernitsas has worked on 21. Karatzas & Partners and the KLC Law Firm have both worked on 14.

The remaining places in the Greek Top Ten are held by international law firms, as White & Case has also worked on 14 reported Greek deals since 2013, Clifford Chance and Norton Rose Fulbright have both worked on 11, and Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer has worked on 10.

Did You Know that, according to the Activity Rankings function of the CEELMDirect website, Djordje Nikolic of NKO Partners, who has worked on five reported deals since the beginning of 2022, is on top of the Serbian deal-making leaderboard so far this year? Igor Zivkovski of the Zivkovic Samardzic Law Office, Mark Harrison of Harrison’s, and Vladimir Dasic of BDK Partners, each of whom have worked on four deals so far this year, are close behind, and Milan Dakic, also of BDK Partners, is alone in fifth place with three.

Indeed, BDK Partners is well-represented on the leaderboard, as Partners Bogdan Ivanisevic and Tijana Kojovic have worked on two reported deals each, as has Vuk Draskovic of Bojovic Draskovic Popovic & Partners and JPM Partners Djordje Novcic and Nikola Poznanovic. No other Serbian lawyers have worked on more than one.

Did You Know that, according to the Activity Rankings function of the CEELMDirect website, Clifford Chance with four, and Allen & Overy with two, are the only firms in the Czech Republic that have worked on more than one reported Banking/Finance deal so far this year?

Six other firms have worked on one Banking/Finance deal each: BBH, CMS, Deloitte Legal, Dentons, DLA Piper, and Kocian Solc Balastik.

Of course, there is substantial overlap in these deals, with multiple firms working on each. One recent example is the EUR 137.5 million loan by a club of lenders including Komercni Banka, Ceska Sporitelna, and Raiffeisenbank to the Accolade group for the construction of an Amazon automated distribution center, on which both Clifford Chance and Allen & Overy advised (as reported by CEE Legal Matters on May 25, 2022). Another recent example is UniCredit Bank Czech Republic and Slovakia’s refinancing of the existing financial indebtedness of the Mattoni 1873 group, which both Clifford Chance and Kocian Solc Balastik worked on (as reported by CEE Legal Matters on May 30, 2022).

For firms, Dentons leads the way with 109 reported deals in the past calendar year, with Sorainen (99), CMS (94), Clifford Chance (80), and Schoenherr (66) rounding out the top five.

Overall, Turcan Cazac has worked on the most deals reported in Moldova in the past nine years – 11 – and Gladei & Partners has worked on six. Interestingly, despite not having an office in the country, international law firm CMS is in third place with five.
